Job Description

Are you passionate about education, leadership, and creating opportunities that bring communities together? Join Deaf Connect, Australia’s largest whole-of-life service provider for Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing communities, as our Manager – Beginner Courses.

This is a full-time, flexible opportunity and can be based in any of our Deaf Connect offices, including Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, or Perth. Our hybrid model supports balance, with core in-office days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and flexibility to work from home on Mondays and Fridays.

About the role:

As the Manager – Beginner Courses, you’ll lead a dedicated team to deliver high-quality, non-accredited Auslan and Deaf Awareness programs. Your leadership will directly impact thousands of people—from Deaf and hard of hearing community members and their families, to schools, workplaces, and the wider community learning to communicate inclusively.

This role is hands-on and future-focused: you’ll grow programs, identify new opportunities, and ensure the continued excellence of services that make a real difference. With responsibility for team leadership, course delivery, and service expansion, you’ll help shape the future of Auslan education in Australia.

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Lead, support, and develop the Beginner Education Team to deliver innovative, high-quality classes.
  • Oversee the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of programs such as Beginner Auslan classes, Deaf Awareness Training, Auslan in the Home, Sign Online, and short courses.
  • Drive program growth, including geographic expansion and new course opportunities.
  • Maintain service quality through customer feedback, data analysis, and ongoing course development.
  • Ensure compliance, recruitment, training, and workforce strategies align with Deaf Connect’s vision.
  • Foster strong collaboration across teams and lead with a commitment to inclusion and accessibility.

About you:

You are a proactive and collaborative leader with a passion for education and community impact. You bring:

  • Experience managing teams in an education, training, or community services setting.
  • Strong organisational and operational leadership skills.
  • A growth mindset and the ability to identify and develop new opportunities.
  • Commitment to inclusion and accessibility, ideally with knowledge of Auslan or Deaf culture (or willingness to learn).
